The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) on Wednesday said that it would present a position paper to the Federal government on the new auto policy recently implemented by the Nigeria Customs Service with a view to drawing the attention of the government on the negative impact of the new policy on Nigerians.
This was part of the decisions taken at the end of the National Executive Committee Meeting of the association held in Lagos on Wednesday.
The meeting which had in attendance, all the chapter executives of the association weighed very critically, the federal government’s policy on vehicle importation and it’s implication on sustenance, its effects on Licensed Customs Agents job and the general public which was seen as impacting negatively on Nigerians.
While noting that as much as the policy was not for agents to contest, the association however observed that the fact that Agents were part of the larger society, meant that the policy needed to be reappraised by the Federal government in the interest of the masses.
ANLCA pointed out that the policy poses a negative effect on jobs and unemployment situation in the country and the general welfare of Nigerians.
The meeting also resolved that while the association contemplates further actions to be taken on the policy, it should embark on sensitization, collaboration and synergizing with other stakeholders as well as present a position to the federal government.
The meeting also resolved that extreme actions by members of the association were to be discouraged because of the precarious security situation in the country currently.
