The New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP) has said that the death of the former Minister of Information and Communication and former Director-General of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Dora Akunyili has robed the nation and its citizens of a great patriot who in all her life left footprints of service and excellence.

This was contained in a press release it issued on Tuesday in Lagos which was tagged,’ Prof. Akunyili Dorathy is gong; The Demise of a Courageous Amazon”, which was signed by the National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam and made available to Primetime Reporters.

It observed that it was the view of the party as a political party that Prof. Dora Akunyili in her capacities in the service of her fatherland remained an excellent example of womanhood regretting that her death came at a time the push for a great woman leader in Nigeria was the priority of NNPP other than the 35 percent affirmative action thus describing her demise as highly regrettable.

The party went on to say that the only honour the nation can pay her memory was to see her death as further challenge to Nigerian women in politics and in professionals towards good governance in this potentially great nation.

“Late Prof. Dora Akunyili’s death is a challenge and the needed tonic by women in politics to push for a space in the leadership of Nigeria as good managers of human materials. Her era at NAFDAC remained golden as she strived to ensure the right to live good life and serve God which is the high point of human existence. This epitomizes the life and times of late Prof. Dora Akunyili while she lived”, the release partly read.

While it note that Nigerians and the society have no doubt lost an amazon at a time she was most needed in Nigeria’s transformation pursuit, it prayed God to grant her safe heaven for saving millions of lives through her offensive against the criminal elements in the business of producing and selling substandard drugs in Nigeria.
