Barely two days before the Nigerian Shipowners’ Association (NISA) elections scheduled for Friday takes place, the Society of Nigerian Mariners (SNM), has called on the members of NISA to return one of her own,s Engr. Greg Ogbeifun as the President of the association.

In a press release signed by the Society’s Chairman, Capt. Cosmas Niagwan and made available to Primetime Reporters, the group stated that its decision was informed by the fact that Engr. Ogbeifun was a familiar person in the maritime industry both locally and internationally as well as both in the Public and private sector.

The group also posited that he (Ogbeifun) was also familiar with the nitty-gritty of the industry having grown from cradle to the level that all of them knew him adding that his courage to humbly present himself to serve at the helm of NISA was an indication of his determination to work with his fellow members of that association to unlock the potential of NISA and influence the affairs of the ship of the nation aright.

The release read in part,” Dear members of NISA, you may wish to be reminded as well as place on record some of his pedigree; Gregory Ogbeifun is a foremost ship-owner and owns a ship yard (great combination to drive the Cabotage regime) which is managed by a team of qualified professionals. He is passionate even in business to practically implement the local content and constantly providing industrial experience for cadets both onboard his ships as well as in the ship yard”.

“He is a dignified partner with foreign ship building yards, the pioneer Chairman of the Planning Committee of the Nigerian Maritime Expo (NIMAREX 2011), the great visionary of the 1st All Nigerian Mariners’ Summit which brought into existence the Society of Nigerian Mariners, he has served in various Committees of the Ministry of Transport and its agencies”.

While describing Engr. Ogbeifun as a successful maritime industrialist who had enjoyed good relationship with both the Public and Private sector, SNM further tipped that he (Ogbeifun) believed in strategic planning, team work, collective responsibility and that he had severally demonstrated his passion and understanding of the industry adding that as a goal getter, he would deliver the vision and mission of NISA.

“The Society of Nigerian Mariners has no reservation whatsoever in recommending Engr. Greg U. Ogbeifun as your candidate to vote for as the President of your great association, the Nigeria Shipowners’ Association”, the release concluded.
