NPA partners NEMA over coastal operations

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has promised to provide meteorological equipment to all pilotage districts within the organisation to assist the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NEMA) in taking care of the entire coastal areas of her operations.

Mallam Habib Abdullahi made this comment while receiving the Director General of the Agency, Dr. Anthony C. Anuforom, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Organisation’s Corporate Headquarters Marina, Lagos.

Mallam Abdullahi noted that, in recent years, there has been technological improvement in the weather forecast especially in the aviation sector, which could be replicated in the Maritime Industry.

He pointed out that the provision of the Meteorological equipment for the Agency is also in line with the Nigerian Ports Authority Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) having considered the agency’s activities as of utmost importance to the operation of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)

The Director General NEMA Dr. Anthony Anuforom who was accompanied by some top officials of the Agency said that the purpose of his visit was to re- emphasis the existing collaboration between the Nigerian Ports Authority and NEMA

Dr. Anuforom stated that the Nigerian Ports Authority should set up a committee with membership drawn from both Nigerian Ports Authority and NEMA to work out timelines and terms of references needed for effective collaborations between the two government agencies

The committee has so far been set up with the following members representing NPA Captain Jerome B. Angyunwe, Assistant General Manager Harbours and Mr Sam N. Nwigwe, Senior Manager (Radio)

The Committee is expected to develop strategies and modalities for the maintenance of facilities for uninterrupted provision of services as well as the benefits of the collaboration between the two agencies among other things.

Present at the meeting were Mallam Habib Abdullahi, MD, NPA, Engr. David Omonebeke, ED Marine and Operations, Mallam M.D Bulangu, General Manager Marine& Operations (NPA), Captain Jerome B. Angyunwe, Asst.General Manager, Harbours, Dr. Anthony C. Anuforom, Director General NEMA, S.J Moral-Director Admin and Supply NEMA, Dr E. Afiesimama Head International Unit NEMA and Ms Ifeoma Ebede, Chief Commercial Officer, NEMA.
