The wife of the governor of Anambra State, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano has donated a new delivery bed to Eziowelle Health centre in Idemili North Local government Area of Anambra State. The donation on Thursday was in fulfillment of a promise Mrs. Obiano made to the centre last year.

Speaking while making the presentation to the Health centre, the wife of the governor said that she came to fulfill a promise made in September 2014, and was pleasantly surprised that many women turned up to receive her.

According to Mrs. Obiano, “I remember that when I came sometime in September 2014, one of your complaints that touched me was that your facilities have gone bad that you have resorted to undertaking delivery of babies on a bench. It touched me because I felt that should not be happening in this century especially in our state. That is why I promised you a bed and went ahead to procure a standard delivery bed, but didn’t find time to present it to you before now. I am sure it will go a long way in ensuring safe delivery by women in this centre.”

Mrs. Obiano told the women at Eziowelle Health centre that she was always touched by things concerning the welfare of children and women hence she made attempt to intervene wherever she could through the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ), a non-profit, non-partisan pet project which had mandate to care for the less privileged and reduce women-child vulnerability while maintaining the dignity of the physically challenged amongst other programmes.

She explained that the gift of the delivery bed for care of women in labour was one way of making sure that mother and child were protected at birth.

The governor’s wife emphasized that through CAFÉ she would make suggestions and if necessary contribute to ensure that such beds should actually be the minimum standard for most centres in Anambra state in the months and years ahead.

She also told the management of the health centre that she made case with the Ministry of Health for the refurbishing and repair of their leaking roof and was assured that there was currently an on-going state-wide repairs and refurbishing which would impact all health centres including the Eziowelle Health centre.

Earlier, the Chairman of Idemmili North Local government Area, Hon Emmanuel Idemobi welcomed the wife of the governor to the council area and assured her that the good work of her husband, governor Obiano and her support was not lost on all.

He thanked her for the latest gift of charity in the form of a delivery bed for the Health centre and assured that the women would definitely show support by voting massively for the candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) during the elections.

Mr. Idemobi promised that the LGA would take special care of the first child to be delivered on the new bed.

In the same vein, the Matron of Eziowelle Health Centre, Mrs. Monica Ekwealor, thanked the wife of the governor for keeping her promise to the centre with the new delivery bed and assured that it would be properly utilized,

The power-driven delivery bed is designed to provide support for the mother and efficient functionality for the nursing staff, throughout all stages of the birthing process. Its flexibility and ease of use offers a practical solution for any modern, progressive delivery ward. The bed can be powered with electric to gain height and it has backrest adjustment which provides support for mother during labour. It is a standard bed that offers versatile delivery platform with leg rest, while its flexibility and ease-of-use makes it practical.
