As preparation for the 2015 Presidential election is gearing up, the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP) has thrown its door open to all the Presidential Candidates to approach it for support in the 2015 presidential election.

It will be recalled that NNPP, a fortnight ago announced during the flag off of the Gubernatorial campaign for the governorship candidate of the party in Lagos declared that it was still studying the various presidential candidates with a view to choosing whom to support adding that it would make its position known a week or two before the presidential poll.

But in a press release issued on Friday by the National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the party insisted that its support for any of the candidates that approached it would be based on a careful study of the party’s manifesto before deciding whether or not to support the party’s candidate.

NNPP noted that whereas it supported President Goodluck Jonathan in the last Presidential election on a platter of gold, this time around, even though President Jonathan according to the statement may be a true representation of sustainable democracy in Nigeria, it was not going to be easy.

The statement disclosed that whereas the party was contesting the senatorial seats, Federal House of Representatives and State assemblies in 23 states of the federation, it may go into alliance with any of the political parties in any state where the party may be considered weak.

The statement read in part,” whereas we supported Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR) in the last Presidential election 2011 which was achieved on a platter if gold, this time around, it is apparent that opposition is very stiff, Mr. President being an epitome of humility in service may be a true representation of sustainable democracy in Nigeria”.

“The chase for a change in Nigeria is also a major issue in the polity in Nigeria today provided we agree that it is necessary at this material time. At the moment, we are contesting election in the senate seat, Federal House and State Assemblies in about 23 states of the federation. It is our wish to enter into strategic alliance with any of our sister political party where we may be weak in any of the states. The campaign team of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan (GCFR), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (GCON) and any other presidential candidate is at liberty to reach out to us to take a look on its manifesto to enable our declaration for support among our teeming supporters nationwide”.

“This should be concluded a week to the election to enable our mobilization of members”.

The party reminded politicians that election is not a do or die affair but a process of choosing the best in the service of the country adding that every campaign should be issue based rather than personal attacks on individuals even as it urged aggrieved party or parties to seek redress in court if they feel short changed.

“This is the way we would build a greater Nigeria. We must work together as a people with a common goal towards building a greater Nigeria”, the statement said.
