The wife of the Governor of Anambra state, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano has commended the hard working women of Anambra state whose dedication and industry she believed contributed to the welfare and sustenance of their families.

Mrs. Obiano stated this while speaking in Awka on the occasion of the 2015 International Women Day.

Mrs. Obiano who is the founder of the Caring Family Enhancement initiative (CAFÉ), a non-profit, non-partisan pet project which has the mandate to care for the less privileged and reduce women-child vulnerability while maintaining the dignity of the physically challenged people among other programmes, said that she had observed a high level of commitment and dignity in labour among Anambra women-folks in the last ten months of her interaction and collaboration with some women groups in the course of trying to create sustainable empowerment programmes for them in communities across the
state.

Mrs. Obiano assured the women that there were bright prospects and better days ahead for Anambra women.

According to her, “I will continue to be your voice and fight for your rights and benefits within the context of the growth and prosperity of the whole state. I will continue to provide empowerment, skills acquisition and vocational training to those of you who are willing and also make a case for the employment of your sons and daughters in other to lessen your burden”.

To ensure sustainable empowerment of women (notably widows) and the less privileged, she explained that CAFÉ equally undertook health outreach and provided support to widows who were victims of violence and abuse while appealing for the support of stakeholders for CAFÉ initiatives and individual contributions to impact lives of women positively.

She further disclosed that CAFÉ would in a few weeks’ time carry out another round of empowerment initiatives to support women and girls to be meaningfully engaged and productive.

The programme she explained was part of her activities in the sidelines of support of her husband the
Governor of Anambra State towards promoting healthy families.

On the other hand she said that Governor Willie Obiano remained a gender sensitive governor who was committed to the welfare of women at all levels.
