…Calls for separation of governance from politics in future elections

The Managing Director, Gold Link Services Limited, Sir Tony Anakebe has decried the delay in the passage of this year’s budget by the National Assembly.

Anakebe who was speaking in an interview with Primetime Reporters in Lagos recently regretted the negative economic impact of this development on the nation adding that this was the firstb time in the history of Nigeria where all attention was focused on the election thus making governance a non issue.

He advocated that the trend should be discouraged in the future as according to him, efforts should be made to separate politics from governance so that both could run independent of the other.

“As far as I am concerned, in the last three months, I have said it before, the economic impact of the non passage of the 2015 budget in April 2015 and the electioneering campaign, for the first time in the history of Nigeria, all attention was focused on the election and governance is non issue again and this has impacted drastically on the business climate in the ports”.

“We have seen it as not tending towards the proper direction. Electioneering campaign is a separate entity; governance is a major entity in all nations of the world. Within the election period, I think every institutions of government should be quite independent from electioneering campaigns in every nations of the world”.

“I will like to beg the government to restructure the campaign structure of every election year starting from the next four years, please let election stand on its own and let governance stand on its own because the governance is for the masses and when the masses see that you are focused in governance, they have seen what you have done, your electioneering campaign will not cost you much, what is on ground already will go for you”, he said.
