The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Lamido Sanusi Ado Bayero yesterday denied that his family owned shares at Intels Nigeria Limited.
A statement sent by NPA yesterday reads: “The attention of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Management has been drawn to the head story of Thisday Newspaper publication of Monday, May 11th, 2015, captioned, ‘After Paying INTELS over N1 Trillion, FG Moves to Acquire 10 Per cent Equity’.
“In the publication, the writer made several wrong and false insinuations on the equity ownership of INTELS and the role of the NPA. One of such wild allegations is that “The late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero owns ten percent equity of INTELS.
“Ordinarily the Management would not have reacted to this publication but considering the flagrant misinformation and misinterpretation of truth, we deemed it most appropriate to put the record straight for the benefit of the general public, especially stakeholders.”
The statement stated that the father of the current NPA Managing Director – late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero – has no equity ownership in INTELS.
“The 10 per cent equity ownership of the company, owned by the late Emir was sold by his family with his demise and over six months before the appointment of the current Managing Director.
“The family has therefore no business connection with the Company since then.
“This can be verified from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Management of INTELS.
“As the Managing Director, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero is appointed by the President, Commander-In-Chief to oversee the operation and activities of the Authority as a neutral arbiter, without any bias to any interest or any stakeholder,” the statement issued by NPA Assistant General Manager Public Affairs, Musa Ilya added.
He assured all stakeholders of equal and fair participation in their areas of operation in the nation’s seaports for the benefit of the nation’s maritime sector.
