… Outlines reform programmes for the actualization of set objectives

The Registrar, Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Sir Mike Jukwe has solicited for cooperation of all stakeholders and practitioners in the freight forwarding industry for the actualization of the Council’s mandate.

Jukwe made this call recently during an interactive session with the leadership of the accredited Freight Forwarding Associations in Lagos.

Speaking on the series of reform programmes laid down by the Council for implementation, he said that the Council would soon embark on her oversight function of the annual visitation to accredited associations, registered corporate and individual practitioners to ensure compliance with regulatory standards to ensure international best practices.

The Council boss noted that the Association Task Forces were to collaborate with the Council’s Enforcement Team and other law enforcement agencies for regular monitoring and raiding of quacks and illegal operators from the ports adding that culprits would be brought to book likewise.

He further disclosed that the approved Freight Forwarders Standard Tariff and Billing Template was expected to come into force as soon as it receives the consent of the Ports Economic Regulator, the Nigerian shippers’ Council (NSC) and the approval of the Honourable Minister of Transport.

According to him, other laid down reforms by the council include; payment of membership dues and subscriptions to associations by the practitioners which he said had become paramount for the smooth and effective running of the associations by their leaderships, the categorization of freight forwarding practitioners in the areas of specialization for efficiency as well as the Freight Forwarding Group Insurance Scheme available for registered practitioners on payment of the annual subscription fee among others.

Responding, the National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Olayiwola Shittu commended the doggedness and commitment of the Registrar towards the growth and development of the industry and urged him not to relent in his effort to reposition the industry.
