NPA orders quick intervention on the deplorable Apapa road

The Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Aihaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero has directed that immediate temporary rehabilitation works should commence on the deplorable road network linking Apapa and Tin Can Island Ports.

The Managing Director gave this directive when receiving the members of Shipping Association of Nigeria (SAN) who paid him a courtesy visit recently at the Nigerian Port Authority’s Corporate Headquarters, Marina, Lagos.

Aihaji Sanusi Lamido who was reacting to updates made by the General Manager, Western Port, Chief M.K Ajayi on the adverse effect of the road on the economic activities at the Ports in Lagos directed that the orders should be carried out immediately.

The Managing Director assured that the authority would mobilise all her resources, both human and materials, to ensure that palliative maintenance work starts without further delay.

The General Manager, Western Port, Chief Michael Ajayi also updated the stakeholders at the meeting that the Management of the NPA and a construction firm had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the rehabilitation of the Liverpool roundabout and the creek road in Apapa.

Chief Ajayi called on other Federal Government Agencies involved in road maintenance to see it as a common challenge and aligned with the Management of the authority in making the Apapa wharf road motorable.

Earlier, the Chairman Shipping Association of Nigeria (SAN) Mr. Val Usifo on behalf of the association members assured the Managing Director of NPA of their corporation for a common objective in the maritime sector.

Present at the meeting were the Executive Director Marine and Operations NPA, Engr. David Omonibeke, General Manager Eastern Ports Mr. Onuenyenwa Obumneme, Port Manager Tin Can Port, Babatunde Longe, Port Manager ONNE Port, Engr. M.A Wada, Acting Port Manager Lagos Port complex (LPC), Abdulrahman Lamina, Port Harcourt Port Mrs. Eunice Ezeoke, as well as the Chairman Shipping Association of Nigeria (SAN) and a member.
