The National Chairman, New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam has urged Nigerians to desist from mounting pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari over Ministerial as well as other key appointments in his cabinet.
Aniebonam who made this appeal in an interview with Primetime Reporters in Lagos pointed that Nigeria needed best hands to run the administration adding that Nigerians would begin to assess the President from the calibre of people he appointed into ministerial positions thus they were watching to know who he was going to brought in.
He reminded Nigerians that the government was thinking of reducing the cost of running government saying that the President had hinted that he was going to reduce the number of ministries to either 15 or 19 even as he okayed the president’s position on reducing cost of governance in the country.
According to him,” Well, for me, there is no vacuum as such, the Permanent Secretaries are in-charge, taking responsibilities. The Ministers, of the course, you should know they are political appointments but the people who have the technical know-how in carrying out the civil service job are already there.
“I don’t think we have any reason to put them under pressure because nothing is lacking. Probably, all those people that wanted such positions are the ones mounting these pressures and people like you and I are now asking questions.
“The point is that we need the best hands to run the administration and whether you like it or not, Mr. President is one Nigerian that was eager to become the President of Nigeria once more as opposed to other Presidents who never thought of becoming President of the country. That was why he made the first attempt, the second attempt, the third attempt as the case may be.
And so, he has a very clear vision of what he intends to, God help him and with the cooperation of Nigerians. So, I don’t think we have to put them under undue pressure with who becomes the minister of this or that, he will get to that”.
