Following the re-instatement of the sacked Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi by President Muhammadu Buhari last week, the Chairman of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Apapa Chapter, Dr. Fred Nnam Ajuzie has called for the sack of all heads of government agencies and parastatals in the maritime sector.
Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, Ajuzie advocated for the sack of all the heads of government agencies in the maritime sector that worked under the former President Goodluck Jonathan arguing that, “everything about the last administration was wrong thus the reason Nigerians opted for change.
He argued that it was only when the heads of these agencies were removed that the maritime community would know for sure that there was a new government in place adding that retaining the current heads in their various positions would see them muddle up things as they try to be useful when indeed they were not useful.
According to him,” We are expecting and waiting until when changes are made in the maritime industry like the heads of government agencies and parastatals. When the heads are removed, we now know that the new government have taken over but now the old people that are there that they have not changed, they are going to muddle things up trying to be useful when they are not in the reality useful.
“For us the maritime people, it is not well but we are hopeful, we are waiting expectantly. There is the need for change. Everything about the last administration was wrong and that was when Nigerians opted for change. Change is not about Buhari because everybody was tired of the system because the system was collapsing, the system was not working fine and God brought it. Whether in the name of Buhari or in the name of anybody, what Nigerians needed then was change and the change has not been really manifested as it is supposed to be.
“We need change like I told you, the changes we need in the industry both the Customs, the NPA, the Shippers’ Council, everybody within the maritime industry, all their heads should be changed. If we are talking about change, we make changes because change is something that can never stop because from change, you can be able to get the best”.
On the successes recorded on Apapa traffic in recent times, Ajuzie said,” the roads are the worst that you can think about. The Military, have you seen any country where the Military has been drafted to handle guns in a bid to control traffic? I have never heard of such thing and you are here telling me about the improvement on our roads. What kind of roads, the roads are the worst”.
