Following the leadership situation that played out in the succession plan of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) as result of the sack of the former Director-General, Dr. Ziakede Patrick Akpobolokemi by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Deputy Director and Head Public Relations of NIMASA, Hajia Lami Tumaka has said that peace and calm now prevail in the agency.
It will be recalled that President Buhari had last month ordered the removal of the former DG of NIMASA, Dr. Akpobolokemi without giving reasons for his removal directing him to hand over to the most senior officer in the agency pending the appointment of a substantive Director-General thus seeing him (Akpobolokemi) hand over the affairs of the agency to the Executive Director Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services in the agency, Barr. Callistus Nwabueze Obi.
But three days later, another directive came from the Federal Ministry of Transport directing that the Executive Directive Finance and Administration of the agency, Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro take over the acting Director-General position of the agency as facts were there that although the three Executive Directors were appointed on the same day, Jauro resumed duty ahead of his two colleagues thus making him the most senior officer in the agency to so assume that position.
Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, the agency’s Head of Public Relations, Hajia Lami Tumaka who is serving in that capacity for a third time disclosed that the event that played out at the agency was in obedience to the Presidential directive adding that a visit to the agency would show that there was peace and calm, a situation they were happy about.
“Regarding the leadership situation in the agency, I am happy to say that all we did was to obey a presidential directive, that we have done and if you come to the agency, you will find out that there is peace and there is calm, a situation we are quite happy about”, she said.
