As countdown to the departure of the outgoing Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Dikko Inde Abdullahi enters the 5th day, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has denied media report tipping it as having endorsed a candidate to succeed Dikko.
A maritime industry based weekly newspaper had reported on Monday that ANLCA had endorsed the group choice for South-West Comptroller-General candidature.
But in a press release issued on Wednesday by the National Publicity Secretary of ANLCA, Dr. Kayode Farinto and made available to Primetime Reporters, the association described the story as a figment of the imagination of the writer adding that there was no time it took any position or spoke about the selection of a new Comptroller-General of Customs.
Farinto maintained that ANLCA was a professional body of Licensed Customs borkers and apolitical explaining that the appointment of the Comptroller-General of Customs was the responsibility of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He said,” More so, if the story that filtered through the industry is true on Alhaji Dikko’s resignation, on behalf of ANLCA, we wish the outgoing Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs all the best. He is indeed a quintessential customs officer; he came, saw and conquered.
“Alhaji Dikko is definitely leaving the Nigeria Customs Service better than he met it, with his ideas of modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service; Nigeria Customs Service is now respected among Comity of Nations. We wish him all the best in all his endeavours”.
It will be recalled that Primetime Reporters on Tuesday reported that Dikko had notified President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to leave the service on the 18th of August, 2015, an action which the National Public Relations officer of the Service said he could not confirm.
