The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has frowned at the restriction order placed on trailers and articulated vehicles within and around Lagos State between the hours of 6.am and 9.pm.
According to a release signed by the National Publicity Secretary of ANLCA, Dr. Kayode Farinto, the restriction was counter-productive adding that it had impacted negatively on the already worsened situation.
Farinto added that the restriction order had automatically given robbers the opportunity to perpetuate their devilish acts at night saying that the amount of manpower wasted by the shippers and customs brokers alike within the last few days could not be replaced.
“Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents has seriously frowned at the restriction order placed on trailers and articulated vehicles within and around Lagos State between 9.00 pm and 6.00.am.
“This restrictions is counter-productive and has since been impacting negatively to the present hash economy. It has automatically given robbers opportunity to perpetuate their devilish acts at nights.
“Within these few days the amount manpower wastage lost by Shippers and Customs brokers can’t be replaced. We are of the opinion that Lagos State Government would have been magnanimous enough to assist in providing a temporary holding bay for trucks and trailers that are transporting goods from ports to its destinations.
“Nigerian Ports being the gateway of the nation’s economy must be guided jealously and cannot be toyed with. But the negligence of some these reckless drivers must also be taken into consideration too”, Farinto said.
He observed that ANLCA was in solidarity with the truckers in appealing to the Lagos State Government to take a second look at the restriction order and revisit the matter failing which the association would have no other option than to join the truckers withdrawing their services from the port as well.
“As a way of revamping our already decay economy that is under developing, ANLCA in solidarity with Truck Owners Association urged His Excellency to please give a second thought and re-visit the restriction placed on heavy duty vehicles.
“Contrary to this, ANLCA will have no option than to collaborate with trailer drivers and withdraw services and shutt down the port, pending when the Lagos State Government will change its policies or provide an alternative measures”, he added
