The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has called on its members, importers and freight forwarders alike to always observe what it called simple trade
regulations of the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) as a way of supporting the organization in its efforts to ensure quality standard of imported products.
Speaking in a press release issued on Wednesday in Lagos and made available to Primetime Reporters, the founder of NAGAFF, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam stated that observing the regulations of SON was a minimum requirement expected of them as patriotic citizens of Nigeria and in conformity with the “change” philosophy of the present administration.
“For us at NAGAFF, we shall continue to encourage SON to increase its awareness campaign on matters of quality assurance and control over SONCAP and MANCAP regime in Nigeria. At the same time we urge SON to continue to evolve an approach that shall stop the idea of arresting containers on our
city high ways”, he said.
Aniebonam described as unfortunate the activities of those he described as unpatriotic elements through whom he said the nation had continued to enrich other nations without getting value for Nigeria’s money adding that NAGAFF as a patriotic association would not provide any protective cover for any of its member in the event of disobedience of rules and regulations guiding international trade.
According to him,” In the same vein we shall continue to appeal to SON to risk-manage import transactions using the frame work of corrective measures to lessen the burden of waste.
“Meanwhile, the NAGAFF high command is urging all its members to take it as a professional responsibility to ensure that our principals adhere to proper documentation and obtaining of product and SONCAP Certificates for each product imported and cleared out of Customs control in our approved
entry points of the seaports, airports and border stations”.
He therefore appealed to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) to enter into a strategic cooperation with SON with a view to enlightening all concerned on matters of quality assurance and control of substandard and fake products.
“It is a civic and patriotic duty upon us to work with SON to save lives and properties of the Nigerian people by ensuring standard of products”, he concluded.
