The South-South Media Professionals have pledged their support to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, (NIMASA) to use the media to ensure that the core mandate of the Agency is enforced.

The Media Professionals said this when they paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Director General Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro in his office.

Speaking during the visit, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Asu Beks, who is also the publisher of Shipping World Magazine, said the association was made up of qualified media professionals who were well groomed in the coverage of the maritime sector and have promised to be available in any area their services would be needed.

He also emphasized the need for the Agency to always furnish the media with the right information, as at when needed noting that most of the negative publicity recorded in the past years about NIMASA were as a result of a communication gap.

Responding, the Acting Director General, Mr. Baba Jauro commended the professionals for their willingness to support the Agency in executing its core functions as the regulatory body in the maritime sector.

He told the delegation that a committee had been set up to look into the disbursement of the Cabotage fund and to also ensure that the fund was utilized appropriately.

Mr. Jauro thanked the Media Professionals and assured them of the cooperation of the Agency so as to ensure accurate reportage for the sustainable growth and development of the maritime sector.
