The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service had on Tuesday destroyed One thousand, Five Hundred and Eighty-Three (1, 583) cartons of frozen poultry products at its command headquarters at Ibafon-Apapa, Lagos.

The destroyed products which was carried out in the full glare of the officials of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Department of Security Service, the Nigeria Police and Journalists consists of Two Hundred and Seventy-Eight (278) cartons of frozen poultry products and Three Hundred (300) cartons of frozen poultry products as well as One Thousand and Five (1005) cartons of frozen poultry products with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Nine Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty-Eight (N9, 768, 000) Naira seized on the 6th and 7th of September, 2015.

Speaking during the destruction exercise, the Customs Area Command (CAC) of the command, Comptroller Yusuf Umar stated that seizures were made possible by the eagle eyed officers of the command in collaboration with the Area Intelligence Unit (CIU) who he said had been on maximum surveillance around Yekemeh, Badagry and Idiroko axis.

Umar pointed out that since the launch of Operation Hawk Descend by the Nigeria Customs Service on the 7th July, 2015, the Western Marine Command had made a total of Six Thousand, Six Hundred and Sixty-Eight (6, 668) cartons of frozen poultry products.

According to him,” In actualization of our pivotal role in the fight against smuggling activities on our waters and the service quest and determination to block all channels of revenue loss, the management of the Western Marine Command, Ibafon-Apapa, under my leadership decided to up the ante in terms of physical fitness and training of officers on the use of AK 47 riffles.

“The result of that sacrifice and commitment is what we are witnessing today.

“As we destroy these products in the presence of officials of NAFDAC, DSS, the Nigeria Police and Journalists today, I want to reiterate that the Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service under my leadership will not tolerate smuggling and other vices that are inimical to the economic and industrial growth of the nation thereby leading to unemployment, loss of jobs, closure of factories and increase in crime rates”.
