The Command Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) PTML Command, Mr. Steve Okonmah has described an award of excellence presented to him by the Management of Primetime Reporters Newspapers as a further call to duty.
Okonmah who made this known when the Management of the news medium called at his office in Lagos on Tuesday to present him the award said that with the award, the medium had only re-emphasized the fact that they were watching and that he must not fail.
While disclosing that the award was the 93rd he had been receiving since assuming the position of the image maker of the PTML command of the Nigeria Customs Service, he however acknowledged the fact that he has not been succeeding by his power.
According to him” I jokingly said that this is my 93rd award, yes! I said it with all seriousness. This is my 93rd award. It is not by my power. I have not been succeeding because I know so much, I succeed with the help and assistance of all of us.
“So, I want to say thank you very much for this recognition. I want to reassure you that this is a call to duty, you have told me yes, we are watching you and you must not fail and I want to assure you that I will not fail you”.
He admonished leaders to always remember the fact that whatever position they found themselves in life, they got there with the help and support of people around them therefore the need for them not to forget them when they had gotten to the positions.
“And to my officers in the office, I want to say thank you. I know you are not tired of snapping me, I want to assure you that very soon, I will join the team that will be snapping you too because you are learning very fast.
I have seen some of you, the PROs in you, yes, by the time we move, definitely, you will take over. I assure you this. Thank you very much, may God be with all of us”, he said.
Earlier in his speech, the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Primetime Reporters, Mr. Saint Augustine Nwadinamuo extolled the virtues of Mr. Okonmah that merited him the award to include his finesse at public relations, his pragmatic approach at handling complains of stakeholders in relation to cargo clearance, Customs-media relations, his pioneering role at coordinating the command public relations officers in the Western Zone of the Nigeria Customs Service among other achievements.
He urged Okonmah not to relent in his effort at being the best he could be in the line of his duty and any other endeavour he may found himself in future adding that there was always a reward for hard work.
