The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Border Command has said that it impounded a fairly used military truck with the inscription, “Use for Transporting Troops” imported through Seme border.

A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Taupyen Selechang stated that the truck which was intercepted by the gallantry efforts of the Command’s operational officers was smuggled into Nigeria under false declaration.

The statement quoted the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Garba Ndalati as saying that the arrest did not come to him as a surprise as according to him, all hands were on deck in his command to work strictly in compliance with the policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC).

According to Selechang, the Customs Area Command helmsman disclosed that under his watch, officers had been warned to adhere strictly to guidelines and ethics adding that this had sensitized his officers to abhor anything that had to do with proven cases of false declarations, deliberate misapplication of tariff, undervaluation and concealment.

The statement further revealed that investigation was still ongoing to unravel the importer of the consignment that had the potential of undermining the security of the nation saying that one of the core mandates of the Federal Government was to secure the nation from any threat to peace, which the Nigeria Customs Service was ready to enforce as security agent at the international border.
