The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Border Command has said that it collected a total of N883, 791, 678.00 (eight hundred and eighty-three million, seven hundred and ninety-one thousand, six hundred and seventy-eight naira) in the month of September, 2015.
A statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Taupyen Selechang noted that the command also made 12 (twelve) seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N3,094,000.00 (three million and ninety-four naira).
The statement further said that Seme Command had consistently performed above average despite many hiccups that made the revenue target for the current year seemingly unattainable.
Selechang observed that Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Comptroller Garba Ndalati impressed with the outstanding performance, stressed the need for attitudinal change among officers for effective service delivery in the current dispensation.
He quoted the CAC as advising that while officers work assiduously for maximum result in the command, they must be careful to do so according to the laid down guidelines and procedure.
“The Area Controller attributed the reduction in the numbers of seizures to the aggressive anti-smuggling operations embarked upon by the officers of the command in the spirit of renewed war against smuggling, which has led to drastic reduction in smuggling activities in the Command”.
“He said that suspects were also arrested at different anti-smuggling operations, and they are at different stages of investigations and prosecutions”, the statement said.
