Dignitaries last Friday converged on late Nze Nwagbara Obioha compound at Mbazu Village, Ibeomaekwe autonomous community in Isu local Government Area of Imo State to pay their last respect to a Matriarch and mother of a renowned Maritime Lawyer, Barr. Osuala Emmanuel Nwagbara, Mama Eunice Adaji Nwagbara who passed on recently.
At the burial ceremony which kick-started with a requiem mass at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Mbato, Oriemkpu Ekwe were the members of the Knights of St. John International and Lady Auxiliaries, Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria, Members of St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Mazamaza, Lagos, Traditional Rulers, Nze na Ozo tittle holders, members of Ekwe Socialite Club, the 1989 Law School Alumni Association, maritime practitioners to mention but a few.
At a holy mass to commend the departed soul of Mama Nwagbara to God, Rev. Fr. Kingsley Ugwoerichukwu in his homily reminded Christians that death one’s fellow should be a moment of reflection for the living adding that the dead no longer care about amending his or her ways but only the living could do so.
Fr. Ugwoerichukwu reminded Christians that anyone who didn’t die in Jesus cannot in any way make heaven since according to him, “Jesus is the way to the father and no one would go to the father or to heaven except through him”, saying that Jesus is the only one who knows the way to heaven.
He therefore called on Christians to give up their unclean ways of life and seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness since they are nothing but sojourners on earth who would one day return to their original home even as he harped on the fact that not every Christian would return to God as many are heading towards perdition.
On a tribute to his late mother, Barr. Nwagbara extolled the virtues of his late mother describing her as a virtuous woman who had an uncommon nature of being contented with the little she had at any time.
“She was full of gratitude for anything you gave her no matter how small. She regarded ‘small’ as bountiful. Mama was a complete woman. She was full of respect for my late father Nze Nwagbara Obioha. I cannot recollect seeing my mother challenge my father. She deferred to my father to the last unit. She dignified womanhood with honour to herself and respect to the men-folk in general. She always said it was wrong for a woman to taunt a man, no matter how highly placed a woman could be. My mother had excellent relationship with her fellow women”, he said.
Barr. Nwagbara who is also the Managing Partner of Maritime and Commercial Law Partners Apapa, Lagos further described his late mother as a woman who loved education and encouraged her children to be involved in community service adding that she believed in hard work as well as helping the poor.
He expressed gratitude to those who travelled from far and near to come and pray with them in their moment of grief.
Mama Nwagbara was survived by six children, one brother, 25 grandchildren three great grandchildren, one son-in-law, five daughters in-law and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives.
