The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has requested all the freight forwarding practitioners in Nigeria to support the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) in its quest to add value to international trade supply chain through the instrumentality of Cargo Tracking Note (CTN).
The two leading freight forwarding associations which made their position known in a press release they issued in Lagos under NAGAFF-ANLCA initiative said although the cargo tracking note would come with an administrative charge which would be borne by the carrier, it would not in any way increase the prevailing shipment rates from the various ports of origin.
The release further contended that having taken time to study the Cargo Tracking Note, it was observed that the inherent benefit therein outweighed the administrative if well administered by the NSC and that the Note would be sacrosanct having taken into cognizance its overall impact on the international trade supply chain with regard to safety, security and trade facilitation.
According to the release,” After a careful study and review of the implementation of the Cargo Tracking schemes in different parts of the world, with keen interest on its cost implication on cargo as opined from different quarters, the scheme from all indication will attract additional cost to the shippers.
“The ANLCA-NAGAFF Initiative while placing explicit confidence on the Nigerian Shippers’ Council’s capacity to promptly supervise the scheme as well as its affirmed position, that the administrative cost will be borne by the carrier, will not in any way increase the prevailing shipment rates from various ports of origin. And having noted the following enormous benefits (which outweighs the administrative cost) of the International Cargo Tracking Note (if promptly administered) is sacrosanct and taken into cognizance its overall impact on the international trade supply chain with regard to security, safety and trade facilitation, we hereby request all well-meaning freight forwarders to support the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in this noble quest to adding value to the international trade supply chain”.
The Statement which was signed by the National Presidents of the two associations namely; Dr. Eugene Nweke and Prince Olayiwola Shittu for NAGAFF and ANLCA respectively however opined that with the 35-point benefits they enumerated in the release, whoever was against the CTN had ulterior motive and should be treated as enemy of trade facilitation, safety and security of the nation.
