The Republic of Ghana has finally launched its National Single Window (NSW) platform with a seminar titled,” “National Single Window -‘Collaboration Towards A Facilitated Trade Environment”.
The event which held at La Palm Royal Brach Hotel, Accra from the 1st to 4th December, 2015 was followed by a National Conference which was regrouped into plenary sessions and later broke in three technical sessions.
The National Single Window was launched by the Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama who was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and was supported by Hon. Seth Terpker ( the Minister of Finance ), Hon. Dzifa Ativor (Minister of Transport), Hon. Fifi Jwetey(Minister of Food and Agriculture), Hon. Ekwow Spio Garbrah (Minister of Trade and Industry), Ms Valentina Mintah ( the Consultant, CEO WestBlue Consultants), George Blankson( Commissioner General Ghana Revenue Authority/chief Host).
The launch also witnessed Nigeria Delegation comprising; Sir Mike Jukwe (The Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria), Deputy Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs, DCG – Iya Umar (Representing the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. hameed Ali ,( Rtd) and DR Eugene Nweke (National President of NAGAFF).
Among the International Delegation are: Mr Kunio Mikuriya-( Secretary General of the WCO), Mr. Ransford A, Smith (Formal Deputy Secretary General of the Common Wealth Secretariat), Mr. Tom Butterly ( Consultant to the United Nation, ” Father of the Single Window”), Mr. Somnuk Keretho ( Professor of computer and Founding Director of IT Innovation –INOVA) among other dignitaries.
It will be recalled that a delegation from the Republic of Ghana led by the Ghana Deputy Minister , Murtala Mohammed was in Nigeria sometime this year to understudy the Nigerian Single Window platform to enable them have a firsthand information on the successes and pitfalls recorded by Nigeria in implementation of the National Single Window platform with the sole aim of improving on the lapses encountered by the country.
