The wife of the governor of Anambra State, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano is collaborating with Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on road safety and anti-drugs and substance abuse advocacy campaign ‎as part of her programmes in the ongoing tour of communities in Anambra State.

The collaboration and sensitization campaign aimed at ensuring accident and violence-free Christmas has so far reached women in communities across ten Local Government Areas already visited by the wife of the governor.

The council areas include: Ayamelum, Anambra East, Oyi, Dunukofia, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Idemili North and Idemili South, Orumba North and Orumba South.

Speaking at various council areas, Mrs. Obiano explained that the collaboration with relevant government agencies was geared at ensuring that vital information‎ and safety measures are passed on to the women who are strategic partners in the dissemination of information relevant to the welfare and well-being of families and communities.

According to her,” I am convinced that many of the women who turn out at our tours have learnt vital safety measures regarding road users and drug abusers in the communities and can now identify and preach or report such matters to persons who would assist in finding solutions.”

She commended the Road Safety Commission and NDLEA Anambra State Command for sending their officers to make effective use of the platform of her community tours to take the message to the grassroots.

Earlier in her sensitization talk, ‎FRSC Protocol Officer, Mrs. Nkem Ibezim, told the women to be conscious of the conduct of drivers that convey them and members of their families to avoid endangering of lives.

She explained various safety measures required of passengers in cars and vehicles and how children should not seat in front seat but with seat belts strapped amongst other safety instructions.

In the same vein the Principal Staff Officer Drug Demand Reduction NDLEA, Mrs. Chinwe Thompson, explained why drivers should not drink or abuse substances that can lead to mistakes and reckless actions like exceeding speed limit to the detriment of persons on board vehicles.

She urged the women to note the unusual behaviour associated with drugs and substance abusers in their communities and report to relevant authorities.

The campaign continues next week to the remaining twelve Local Government Areas ‎of Anambra State.
