The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) is set to conduct a public hearing on Wednesday at NAGAFF headquarters in Lagos to ascertain the veracity of the allegations against DC Saidu Aliu who has been alleged to be involved in sundry corruption acts at the CPC of the Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Tincan Island Command by the Secretary of ACTU NAGAFF, Fwdr. Arthur Igwilo to intimate him of the said public hearing.
The letter which was copied to DC Saidu reads, “We are by this letter intimating you of a public hearing to be conducted by the Anti-Corruption Unit of our association coming up tomorrow at our
National Headquarters at 2A Maybin Road GRA Apapa Lagos to ascertain the veracity of the allegations against one of your officers who has been alleged to be involved in sundry corruption acts at the CPC of your Command by many of our members who have done business in the area of freight forwarding in the CPC of the Nigeria Customs in Tincan Island Port (kindly see the attached Public Notice).
“For clarity purposes we state unequivocally that no one is being tried but we want to verify the plethora of allegations against DC Saidu Aliu. In view of this we will crave your indulgence for you to be represented in this investigation so that the other party can be heard for fair hearing purposes. We state here that what we want to do is to assist your Command, the entire Nigeria Customs Service and indeed the present Government in its anti-corruption drive.
“We shall therefore be glad if this action which is being carried out in utmost good faith is seen as a good gesture”.
It will be recalled that the Unit had earlier sent out a public notice notifying members of NAGAFF and indeed all freight forwarders operating in the nation’s ports who have evidence of under belly dealings of DC Saidu Aliu to come up with such evidence to enable it undertake its assignment diligently.
The Public notice which was signed by the National Chairman of the Unit, Fwdr. Increase Uche said,” The public hearing is to expose the under belly deals if any surrounding rerouting of risk channels, bench marking of imports, stoppage of released containers at the exit gates, alerting of jobs with intent to extort and blocking of passwords and agencies licenses unduly. Time is 10am, Date is 16th December 2015, and venue is NAGAFF Village.
“Please ensure documentary and collaborative evidence in your presentation and witnesses thereof, to enable us determine the compliance level of DC Saidu Aliu and AC Zarma since the inception of the new CGC directive on corruption and revenue matters. The publication is to serve as appropriate notice to DC Saidu Aliu and AC Zarma of the CPC Unit of Tincan Island Ports of the Nigeria Customs Service. The CAC is also being encouraged to allow them to attend the public hearing for the purposes of fair hearing. It is on record that Nigeria voted for change and as such we must support Mr. President to achieve set objectives for a new Nigeria”.
