Dimka reiterates diligence, commitment to duty; seizes goods worth over N6million

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Seme Area Command, Comptroller Victor Dimka has promised that his command would do its best to facilitate legitimate trade and secure the nation through diligent and commitment to duty.

According to a Press release sent to Primetime Reporters by the Command’s Public relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Selechang Taupyen, Dimka gave the assurance while inspecting the seizure made recently by the enforcement team of the command.

Taupyen stated that the enforcement team of the command recently made a seizure of sundry items with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Six million, nine hundred and forty-one thousand, six hundred and Thirty seven naira (N6, 941, 637.00.)

“A breakdown of the seizures that was made in the second week of Dimka’s resumption showed 695 cartons of seized imported frozen poultry products, 115 x 50kg bags of imported rice, 117kegs x50liters of premium motor spirit (petrol), 1 truck (6tyre) and 2 scrap vehicles being means of conveyance with 3 suspects”, Taupyen hinted.

Inspecting the seizures, according to the PRO, the new Customs Area Controller disclosed that all hands must be on deck to generate revenue, suppress smuggling to the beeriest minimum adding that, “This is just the beginning; we shall do our best to facilitate legitimate trade and secure our nation through diligence and commitment to our responsibilities”.

He  listed other actions taken so far by the CAC to include the restructuring of the enforcement unit of the command for optimal performance and to meet the current dynamics, drafting of officers and men to man all the porous outlets that could be used by the smugglers and an on the spot visits to the different duty posts across the command which showed that the gross acts of indiscipline among officers and men that was synonymous with Seme Area Command was gradually fading away, as all officers were seen to be in total compliance.

“At the management level of the command, the Customs Area Controller is seen to be consciously and diplomatically bringing to bear every managerial and administrative principle into practice. He is leading to succeed by building a team spirit with the members of his management team with a resolved to compliment the sincere effort of the Comptroller General of Customs in generating enough revenue.

“It is glaring that the impact of change is truly in the air, manifesting and has become a topic of discuss to any recent traveler that is familiar with the Lagos -Abidjan international route.

“To enhance transparency and efficient enquiry on our modus operandi, the comptroller also instructed the strengthening of SERVICOM/ Help Desk Seat in the command.

“It could be recalled that Compt. Dimka, V.D the new customs area controller of Seme command took over the mantle of leadership precisely on the 13th January, 2016.

“Being an epitome of discipline and an advocate of strict compliance to the implementation of the service extant laws, the  customs area controller is marching words with action as he work round the clock with  the determination to succeed at all course.

“As a disciplinarian, the address of the controller at the general parade had earlier send signals to every officer on the need for adjustment. Consequently, there is a far departure from  acts of indiscipline observed among officers and men to  better commitment and strict adherence to procedure and guidelines in the discharge of their duties.

”The body language of the new customs area controller and his readiness to implement and enforce discipline to the later where necessary have actually impacted positive behavioral and attitudinal change among officers and men of the command”, he said.
