The Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano spent memorable time with prisoners during the festive period by showing that Christmas should be a festive time for everybody when she visited prison inmates at the four Prisons in the State and showered them with gift items.

The Prisons visited by Mrs. Obiano include; Onitsha Prisons in Onitsha North Local Government Area, Nnewi Medium Security Prison in Nnewi in Nnewi North LGA, Ekwulobia in Aguata LGA and Amawbia in Awka South LGA where she donated bags of rice, beans, and flour, cartons of malt drink, and Tropicana, beverages, gallons of vegetable oil, bagful of pairs of slippers, tubers of yam as well as toiletries.

Speaking while presenting the gift items, Mrs. Obiano who is also the founder of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ), a Non-Governmental Organization, stated that her visit was to share the great moment with the inmates to give them a sense of belonging.

While commending the prisons authorities for maintaining a clean environment, Chief (Mrs.) Obiano promised to fix the non-functional borehole at the Ekwulobia Prison and assured of her willingness to help their cause whenever they bring a formal request to her attention for onward transmission to relevant authorities.

In appreciation, Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, Alex Oditah of Onitsha Prison, Aghedo Gabby of Nnewi Prison, Augustine Njoku of Ekwulobia Prison and Chinedu Andrew of Amawbia Prisons thanked the governor’s wife for  her kind gesture towards the upkeep and maintenance  of inmates in particular and pledged continued support to Chief Willie Obiano’s administration and CAFE.

Specifically, DCP Aghedo whose view reflected that of other prisons authorities across the State disclosed that Chief (Mrs.) Obiano was the first wife of a governor to visit the 178 capacity Nnewi Prison which was commissioned in June 2014 by Governor Willie Obiano who equally provided it with two new vehicles while commending the Catholic and Anglican Churches for sustaining the prisons over the years.

The governor’s wife was accompanied by the wife of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mrs. Mary Oye, leader of the Legislators’ Wives Association (LEWA) and wife of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs. Sylvia Oseke and APGA State Women Leader, Mrs. Chinyere Ibenta, among others.
