General Manager Western Ports, Nigerian Ports Authority [NPA] Chief Micheal Ajayi has urged jetty operators in the Tincan Island axis to support in concrete terms the Federal Government efforts to solve the perennial Apapa gridlock.

Chief Ajayi, on behalf of the Management of the Authority, appealed to the jetty operators to put in place enduring and lasting measures within their operational areas to ensure smooth traffic flow along the Apapa-Oshodi Express Way .

The General Manager was speaking while exchanging views with some jetty operators during a familiarization tour of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal [KLT] on Thursday.

He reiterated that it was necessary for the jetty operators to support the government efforts because it would be to their advantage to have a permanent solution to the problem, considering how it affected their operations.

During the tour, which was his first familiarization visit to the KLT, Phase 1, Chief Ajayi toured MRS, Ibru Atlantic Shrimpers Ltd, Royal Salt and LADOL Jetties as well as the popular Abuja trailers park.

In all the places visited, the General Manager who inspected their facilities seized the opportunity of the tour to impress on the operators to place premium on safety standards in their daily operations.

At the MRS, Chief Ajayi enjoined the Management to assist in clearing the trucks along the inner route leading to the Tincan Port main gate and that the Management should consider repairing some portions of the road leading to the entrance of the jetty.

Dr. Jibril Otunba of the MRS who conducted the General Manager round the facility assured that the company would support government efforts to have a permanent solution to the traffic congestion within their end.

Also, at the Ibru Jetty, the General Manager appealed to the operators of the jetty to support government efforts at solving the traffic problem along the Apapa corridor and expressed concern on how the situation affected operations in the jetty.

Responding Ibru Vice Chairman, Chief Oscar Ibru assured that the company was always willing to key into whatever measures the Federal Government took to find a lasting solution to the Apapa traffic problem.

He said the company had in the last 4 years been collaborating with the appropriate government agencies to find solution to the problem.

The General Manager was accompanied on the tour by the Port Manager TCIP Mr. Babatunde Longe as well as some key officers from the headquarters of the Western Ports and TCIP.
