The three flyovers under construction in Awka Capital of Anambra State will be completed ready for use by end of April 2016 while construction on access road to Coscharis Farm Anaku, has commenced in earnest.

This assurance was given today by the Governor of the State, Chief Willie Obiano‎ during an inspection visit to the Kwata flyover project site and the Coscharis Farms.

Speaking shortly after the inspection, the governor said that he was hopeful that based on the assurances of the contractors handling the project, the Kwata flyover would be delivered on time.

Chief Obiano expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work he saw on site and assured that the government would fulfill its own part of the deal by paying for all certificates generated on the job.

Earlier, the Project Manager of IDC Mr. Joseph Yusuf, the contractors handling the flyover bridge told the governor that work on the bridge was way ahead of schedule and would be ready for use by end of April 2016.

Governor Obiano also inspected the new access road under construction to Coscharis Farms Anaku, Ayamelum Local Government Area.

The 1.9 kilometre road when completed is expected to aid the evacuation of rice produce.

Giving his assessment after the inspection, Governor Obiano, said that the road was a priority because of the importance of Agriculture as a major pillar of the administration’s economic thrust.

According to him, “I came to inspect the access road to Coscharis Farms because during the last farming season they had difficulty evacuating their products.‎ The farm made great impact on our rice production last year with a contribution of eighty hectares and they have added another ten hectares. We are trying to put in place infrastructure like roads which will enable Coscharis and other farmers in the area to evacuate their produce.”

Giving his commitment to complete the project before the onset of rainy season, the Managing Director of Macmoris said that the construction was expected to cross the swamp early next week to ensure a speedy completion of the project on schedule.

Anambra State recently made a giant stride in rice production with the advent of private sector farms like Coscharis which is set to produce up to 129,000 tonnes out of the 320,000 tonnes of rice consumed by the state. It is on record that most of the rice consumed in the state in year 2015 was locally produced with the state government supporting civil servants with bags of rice at Christmas.
