APM Terminals Limited, Apapa, Lagos has awarded scholarships to fifty Nigerian undergraduate students studying at local colleges and technical schools under its annual scholarship and internship programme.

Speaking at a reception ceremony in honor of this year’s recipients held at the Apapa Port, APM Terminals Apapa Managing Director Andrew Dawes noted that the annual scholarship and industrial training initiative was part of the company’s overall Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which promotes active local community involvement throughout the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network.

Over the four years of the scholarship program, two hundred students have been provided with support and training.

“We strongly believe in encouraging young students by providing professional industrial attachment opportunities to as many students as we can train each year. New jobs are created, but most importantly, we have a chance to impact the lives of these students and their future careers positively”, Mr. Dawes stated.

One of the scholarship recipients, Mr. Ogundijo Victor Oluwaferanmi, a student at the University of Lagos, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to pursue his academic and professional goals through APM Terminals’ support.

“With this scholarship program, our skill sets have been greatly impacted and it is a huge incentive to achieve academic excellence. This is one programme that other   organisations in the country should emulate in order to upskill labour in the country,” he said.

Beneficiaries of the scholarship programme included students from the University of Lagos, the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, the University of Ilorin, the Federal University of Technology, the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, the University of Ibadan and the Federal University of Technology Owerri.

Other institutions represented are the University of Benin, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ondo State College of Health Technology, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, the University of Uyo, The Polytechnic Ibadan, Federal Polytechnic Owerri, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Yaba College of Technology, Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Kaduna Polytechnic and Anambra State University.

APM Terminals operates APM Terminals Apapa, the busiest container terminal in West Africa, and the West African Container Terminal, in Onne.

APM Terminals operates a Global Terminal Network of 72 operating port and terminal facilities and 140 Inland Services operations, as well as providing independent Crane Engineering Services to the global port industry, with a presence in 69 countries on five continents.
