The Chairman, Shipowners’ Forum, Barr. Mrs. Margaret Onyema-Orakwusi has reacted to statements credited to the factional President of the Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA), Capt. Dada Labinjo and the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NISA, Engr. Emmanuel Ilori to the effect that there were not aware of her appointment as the Chairman of the Forum saying that both did not deserve a reply from her.

Orakwusi who made her position known to our correspondent via WhatsApp message said that the reaction of non shipowners and Capt. Labinjo was unfortunate though expected.

She however informed that Shipowners’ Forum would go on with its activities that would enhance and reflect positively on their businesses as well as the growth of the maritime industry.

The Forum Chairman disclosed that she had been advised to remain focused and be guided by the forum’s objectives adding that their stake was huge.

According to her,” The reaction of non shipowners and Capt. Labinjo is unfortunate however expected. The Shipowners’ Forum will move on with its activities that will enhance and reflect positively on our businesses and the growth of the industry.

“I have been advised to remain focused and be guided by our objectives. Recall King Solomon’s judgment in the case of 2 women claiming ownership of one child. Our stake is huge. Engr. Ilori was a member of NIMAREX Committee which I chaired twice, he doesn’t deserve a reply from me”.

Recall that Engr. Ilori had described as untrue the news that Orakwusi was appointed the Forum’s Chairman but alluded to the coming together of the two major shipowners’ associations namely; NISA and Shipowners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) whereas Labinjo on his own denied any alliance between NISA and SOAN calling the news a bluff.
