Truck Minimum Standard: Western Ports GM, Ajayi commends Ports Authority Police Command

The General Manager, Western Ports of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Chief Michael Ajayi has commended the role played by the officers and men of the Port Authority Police Command, Western Ports in the recently launched enforcement of safety and minimum standards for all trucks operating in Ports within the Lagos area.

According to the General Manager the successes recorded since the commencement of the exercise were largely attributed to the diligence and commitment of the officers and men of the Authority Police.

Chief Ajayi was speaking in his office in Lagos recently while exchanging views with the newly appointed Commissioner of Police of Western Command, Port Authority Police, Mr. B.D. Gwana who paid him a courtesy visit.

Recalling that in all the series of consultations and meetings that culminated into the successful launching of the truck standard enforcement, the General Manager explained that the Police had been fully involved at all stages and had contributed immensely to its overall success.

Chief Ajayi also commended the activities of the Marine Police in protecting the waterfront and pledged assistance to the Port Authority Police, within the constraint of limited resources.

He prayed for a successful tenure for the new Commissioner and for his steady career growth in the force.

Responding Commissioner of Police Mr. Gwana said he was at the Zone to familiarize himself with the activities of the Zone and to solicit for further cooperation between the Western Command of the Port Authority Police and the NPA.

The Commissioner explained that statistics had shown a drastic reduction of crime activities, within the Port in recent times adding that this had made the Ports in Lagos area relatively crime free.

The Commissioner was accompanied by CSP Sani Shuaibu, Divisional Police Officer, Lagos Port Complex (LPC), Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Hasso, the Port CID, Assistant Commissioner of Port Bankole Lanre and Superintendent of Police F.C Ajoke, Command Traffic.
