The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi has said that the authority is fully aware of the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of the Federal Government and has been complying over the years by paying all remittances to the Federation Accounts.

Mallam Abdullahi stated this recently in the authority’s boardroom while receiving members of the House of Representatives Ad – Hoc Committee on Non-Oil Revenue and Remittances who were on over sight functions to the authority.

The Managing Director thanked members of the committee for coming to see the achievements, progress and challenges of the authority and assured the committee that all documents that would ease their assignment would be supplied by the authority.

While informing the committee that the authority was a self-sustaining federal government agency, he directed the Finance Directorate to sit with the committee for reconciliation of accounts.

Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Nicholas Ossai who stood in for the Chairman had told the Managing Director that the committee was set up by the resolutions of the National Assembly and charged with responsibility of ensuring that no government agency owed the Federal Government in terms of remittances to the Federation Accounts.

Hon. Ossai also disclosed that the committee was looking for areas where government had been short-changed in the area of remittances and level of compliance with extant financial rules.

Among the top management staff of the authority present at the meeting were the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Mr. Olumide Oduntan, General Manager, Legal and Board Matters, Mrs. Eniola Williams, General Manager, Western Ports, Chief Michael Ajayi, and General Manager Finance, Mr. Simon Aniobi.

Other members of the committee included Hon. Tata Umar, Hon. Austine Chukwukere, Hon. Darlington Nwokocha, Hon.Nasir Ali Ahmed, Hon. Rufus Omeire, Hon. Kingsley Obinna, Hon. Henry Nwawubu.
