The widely acclaimed open-door style of governance of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano was on display Thursday evening at the Governors’ Lodge Amawbia, Anambra State when the governor who is also the party leader and Chairman Board of Trustees received with warm embrace and hosted the Maxi Okwu led faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to a re-union with APGA executives from national and state levels and declared “I am happy we are one.”
Speaking during the epoch re-union, Governor Obiano said that with the present peace and unity within the party, APGA was poised to become a force to reckon with in the country’s political sphere.
“As one big family, APGA is willing and ready to welcome back any aggrieved members who return to the fold. Let me assure you that under my watch APGA will continue to break new positive grounds. Today I am happy that we are one with you. I have no doubt that with this re-union, nothing will stop APGA from making in-roads into other states of the Federation, I therefore urge you our members to immediately swing into action in winning others into the party “, Obiano said.
Furthermore, Governor Obiano informed the party faithful that the APGA regime in the State has distinguished itself in terms of good governance, and as a result, its leadership model has been adjudged the best option for most states of the Federation with very low development indices.
He said, “Rest assured that we will continue to set the pace in all we do for the good of our people”.
Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye who noted that Governor Obiano’s inception of office as the national leader and BOT Chairman of the Party had injected new life into the party, also observed that the reunion was consistent with his earlier promise to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party so as to forge a formidable front for the political battles ahead.
In his address, Chief Okwu while pledging total loyalty to the new APGA leadership, said the magnanimity that the Governor had shown even in victory would guarantee lasting peace in the Party, adding that it was in the best interest of the state and the entire South East, that APGA retains the leadership of the state come 2017.
In a brief remark, a member of the reconciliation team and member representing Njikoka II Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Sir Pete Ibida, said that the event marked a milestone in the Party’s efforts to gain entrance into politics at the centre, as the battle within was the most vital.
Also speaking the Chairman, APGA Reconciliation Committee, Chief Maja Umeh acknowledged that the reconciliation was made possible through the outstanding performance of Governor Obiano and his love for peace and cordial relationship among people.
It would be recalled that the Maxi Okwu faction of APGA Executives which was brought into being by a national convention of the Party held on the 8th of April, 2013 at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, had litigated their legitimacy case up to the Supreme Court, where the apex Court dismissed their appeal.
Present at the re-union were the National Chairman of APGA, Dr. Sir Victor Oye, National Secretary, Mr. Labaran Maku, Anambra State Chairman of APGA, Chief Sir Nobert Obi and many party faithful.
