…As Nweke hands over to BOT Chariman
Despite the absence of the newly appointed National President of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Mr. Oluwale Adeyemi, the out gone National President of NAGAFF, Dr. Eugene Nweke proceeded to hand over the paraphernalia of office to the Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of NAGAFF in a modest ceremony to mark the event at Apapa, Lagos Monday.
Speaking shortly before the handover proper, the out gone National President of NAGAFF, Dr. Eugene Nweke who traced the root of his administration to 10th May, 2010 having succeeded the late Mr. Steve Sanusi Usman stated that the handover ceremony was in fulfillment of the constitutional obligation marking the end of his administration to the association as the third National President.
Nweke who declared that members of the association should be in a better position to judge or rate his administrative performance within the six years he held sway as the association’s helmsman reminded those who cared to listen that he was not a perfect being and never claimed monopoly of excellence, wisdom nor knowledge as far as leadership was concerned.
He therefore advised the new National President not to disappoint the association who had reposed so much confidence in his ability to steer the ship of NAGAFF to the berth at the Quayside.
“To my successor, Fwdr. Lion Oluwole Adeyemi, I have no iota of doubt as regards to your commitment and love for NAGAFF. Equally, I am particularly happy that I am handing over to a President from South West, having succeeded a President from the South South, myself a President from the South East, this obviously makes room for a true reflection of the canvassed geopolitical representation in the eye of the Federal Character representations.
“Secondly, as a widely travelled freight forwarder of repute, I believe you will add that up to your numerous wealth of experiences to give NAGAFF a befitting and focused leadership especially adding the international flavor as it were”, he said.
He however requested all NAGAFF members especially the National Executive Council (NEC) members to rally round the new President and accord him every necessary support and cooperation for him to succeed and lead them to the next level.
While appreciating God, his family, the founder of the association, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the BoT Chairman, Mr. Chidiebere Enelamah among others for the supporting he enjoyed during his tenure as the President, he tendered an unreserved apology to those whom he might have wronged in the course of carrying out his responsibility as the President.
Also speaking, the BoT Chairman, Mr. Chidiebere Enelamah who received the properties and paraphernalia of office from the out gone President on behalf of the new President thanked Dr. Nweke for his meritorious service to the association and prayed God to keep and preserve him in his future endeavours.
Enelamah reminded Dr. Nweke that his stepping aside in order to abandon the association and its new President adding that the new President as well as the association would always need him around to tap from his wealth of experience.
He disclosed that barring any unforeseen circumstances, there will be a proper inauguration of the new executive and the incumbent President would be around.
According to him,” On this note, I want to say thank you to Dr. Eugene, you have done wonderfully well. God will keep you, God will preserve your going out and your coming in. NAGAFF will need you, if Adeyemi succeeds, the credit will go to you, if he fails, it is you that will be blamed.
“I believe in a matter of days, precisely on the 24th of this month, except there is another development, I believe there will be proper inauguration and Adeyemi will certainly be around”.
On why the new President was not present at the occasion, he said,” Adeyeim Oluwole would have been here, I spoke with him yesterday, it was this morning that he called Dr. (Aniebonam), you know that he is contesting for the position of President of the Lion’s Club International, so, the thing is a stressful something, he has just gone for bed rest and I believe that by the end of today’s activities, he will bounce bank to strong life and I can assure you that even as we are doing this, he is monitoring the event and I think he is being communicated”.
On his part, the founder of NAGAFF, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam revealed that as regards the appointment of the National Executives of NAGAFF, that the association would continue to keep with the agreed principle of appointing members of the NEC until it is sure that nobody could penetrate into the association to cause distraction so that it would help members to conclude on their assignment.
“Elections has been going on in all the chapters, that is alright but here, after Eugene, we know who is going to be the next President because if you are not careful, money bags will come into this place and disorganize you”, he said.
He however appreciated Dr. Nweke for his effort at repositioning the association in the last six years saying,” I won’t say much about him now”.
He continued, “We will still come back here, that day, Adeyemi will take over from the Chairman of the Board, that is the constitutional provision. Of course, when we have a scenario like this, the leadership goes back to the Chairman of the Board who has the custodian. As soon as Adeyemi is back, we will hand him over formally. For now, the Chairman Board is the president of NAGAFF. When Adeyemi returns, we will call Eugene back and that is the day you will hear my speech”.
