The New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP) in furtherance of its consultations with various interest groups across the country has commenced talks with the National Movement for A New Nigeria (NMNN), with a view to building a platform that will accommodate the interests of all the segments of the Nigerian nation.

At a meeting in Lagos on Thursday, delegates from NNPP and the NMNN, agreed to work together to present a credible platform to engender politics of fairness and development in Nigeria.

The Founder of the NMNN, Comrade Adamu Song said there was the need for Nigerian leaders to begin to look at how to take the generality of Nigerians out of poverty, using the instrumentalities of politics and good governance.

Song, a former National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the current Deputy Secretary General of NUPENG said Nigerians had no reason to romance poverty, and urged leaders to always think of how to improve the living condition of the people.

He said time had come for the leaders to practice politics of development and shun vendetta and acrimony.

For his part, the leader of the NNPP team, the National Secretary, Mr. Gilbert Agbo commended the leadership of the NMNN for the brave move to embrace NNPP and its programmes for development.

Agbo said the NNPP, since its registration in 2001, has been working silently and methodically to develop and sell programmes aimed at ending poverty, to the people of Nigeria.

The NNPP National Secretary said inspite of distractions and challenges, the party had never taken its focus off the ball knowing that at the appointed time, Nigerians would come to realize and appreciate the laudable programmes the NNPP was offering to them.

He commended Nigerians for the warm acceptance being accorded NNPP across the country.

The NNPP Chieftain made particular reference to the waves being made by the party in States like Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Yobe, Adamawa among others, describing it as a good omen for both the party and the country.

Both the NNPP and NMNN pledged their readiness to continue to work together and explore other areas of cooperation towards realizing their objectives.

Meanwhile, the NNPP has expressed its readiness to take part in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo States scheduled for later in the year.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Barr. Fred Akokhia said arrangements had been concluded to hold the party’s primaries in the two states to elect its gubernatorial candidates.

Akokhia said the party was very much aware of the requirements by the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act and would abide by the requirements, in its preparations for the elections.

He advised interested party members to contact the appropriate quarters for further clarification on the elections.

He said modalities for the emergence of the party’s flag bearers were being concluded by the leaders and that in no distant time, that would be made public.

Barr. Akokhia advised the aspirants and their supporters as well as other party members to remain calm and be guided by the party’s philosophy of ‘politics without bitterness’ in their conduct.

He promised a level playing field for all the contestants, and that the party leaders would not give any undue advantage to any of them.
