The Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano has charged Ogbunike women to be peace ambassadors by promoting inclusiveness in their communities rather than quarrel amongst neighbours in other to build a better society.
Mrs. Obiano made the appeal Saturday while addressing the 2016 August meeting of the Women of St. Marks Anglican Church, Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area.
The wife of the Governor told the women who congregated inside her childhood parish church that the meeting presented her with a golden opportunity to tell them some home truths as a daughter of the town.
According to Mrs. Obiano, “I want you to adopt and practice the use of words like Please, Thank you and Sorry. The use of these words in our relationship with fellow human being helps to promote peace everywhere. Of course, arrogance and impudence leads to friction and disagreements. So my plea is that we all should love our neighbours as ourselves. I therefore urge you all to work together to build a peaceful society”, she exhorted.
Mrs. Obiano who was honored as Adadioranma by the Anglican women of St. Marks Ogbunike for selfless service to the church and humanity also tasked other award recipients to be good ambassadors in the community by promoting peace at all times.
Acknowledging commendations by earlier speakers for the good job being done by their in-law and Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano, Mrs. Obiano stated that the Governor’s performance was a result of prayers by well-wishers and Ndi Anambra, assuring that “by the grace of God we will make you proud. “
Emphasizing her belief in the philosophy of teaching people how to fish rather than offering them fish, Mrs. Obiano, enumerated some of the programmes of her NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE) which empowers indigent widows and women with various skills like tailoring, hair dressing, bakery and confectionery, telephone repairs etc., and called on the women to enroll to be trained so as to be self-reliant.
Earlier, the President Home and Abroad St. Marks Anglican Church Women Ogbunike, Mrs. Eunice Meka told the wife of the Governor who was amongst the award recipients that the women decided to honour her among others who worked for the growth and progress of the Church.
She also called on her to support their hall building fund.
Also in his remarks, President Ogbunike Progressive Union (OPU), Chief Godwin Ibekwe, told the Governor’s wife that Ogbunike was proud of her in-law the Governor because he was doing well.
“We can testify to the progress our state has made since the days when workers were not paid for work done. It is well known that the Governor is paying salary regularly and doing great things in our state”, he said.
Chief Ibekwe also informed the Governor’s wife that although she came at the invitation of the Anglican women, that Ogbunike turned out in numbers to welcome and reassure her that they were solidly behind her and her husband and would support Governor Obiano for second term in office.
In his vote of thanks, Archdeacon of St. Marks Anglican Church Ogbunike, Venerable Joseph Nweke thanked Mrs. Obiano and the Governor for supporting the church and the women as well as ensuring that Ogbunike sons and daughters were represented in the government.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to the wife of the Governor and eight other women.
