The former National President of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr. Eugene Nweke has described life outside office as challenging.
This is even as he said that he had charted for himself what he wanted to do with his life as becoming NAGAFF President was an assignment that was obvious adding that he was done with the assignment.
According to him,” So, I go back again, look upon God for further direction and like I will always say, I am a man on the path of destiny and I am yet to fulfill my destiny. So, for me, we are there, we thank God, he has been very merciful to me”.
He described NAGAFF as a moving train saying that one must understand the concept of the association as according to him, it was trying to fulfill that which was drawn over time.
The former NAGAFF boss noted that nothing had gone wrong with the association since his exit in May this year saying that whatever had happened behind the scene was tilted towards making sure that the vision of the association as it were, go on unhindered.
“Whatever has happened before and after, it is still a system but the only issue here is that unfortunately, the President that took over from me has some health issues. Thank God that he is overcoming it. Sooner or later, he will resume in his office but now, the BoT Chairman is on the acting capacity, holding forth till he comes to take over and by then further policy issues will be advanced. You know under acting capacity, it is not every policy that will be factored and implemented”, he said.
On his absence from many visits recently embarked upon by the association, Nweke informed that he must necessarily be present at all the official visits or reception by NAGAFF as it would mean that he had not actually exited but quickly added that he could be called upon whenever he was needed by the association.
He said,” There is no visitation that has taken place in NAGAFF which I have not made an input into what the discussion should be. I don’t want to be at the forefront of it or else it will look as if I have not actually exited. So, I must stay at the background to allow the incumbent to administer, remember, it is about consolidation, I have added impetus, another person should consolidate.
“So, carrying me along or going to visitation with them, I don’t think it is a good administrative impression. That is the way I look at it”.
On what his aspirations would be having left office as NAGAFF President, he has this to say,”Today, my services are available where it is needed and I believe that in my right, I am a consultant and I look forward for my ideas and vision for freight forwarding industry. I am not shifting ground, this is my profession and I am still open to further my horizon”.
Speaking on his appointment into the Ministerial Committee on Inland Container Depot (ICD), Nweke who is also the Managing Director of Virtues Marine Limited disclosed that he never had meeting with anybody adding that he received a letter to come and serve in the committee.
He observed that,”Appointments come, that was not the first appointment. I have always received government’s call to come and serve, either from the government Ministry or from a parastatal because I know I have involved in technical committees by invitation. So, it is not like it is a new one to me.
“The whole idea is the committee had an inaugural meeting at Abuja, we are now looking at studying and collating fact, after collation of data, we meet again in the weeks ahead, then from there we will start going round doing the job”.
