The wife of the governor of Anambra State, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano Thursday commissioned a modern toilet at Afor Igwe market Umudioka Local Area of the state and a water borehole project at Amatutu, Villages Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, and condemned the reported incidence of touts who extort money from hapless market women in contravention of the state revenue collection procedure and laws.

At Afor Igwe, the wife of the governor stated that the market toilet project promoted hygiene and healthy environment in rural markets; and at Agulu, she said that the borehole which was supplying portable water to assist rural women were built by her NGO, Caring family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ) as a humanitarian gesture to Ndi Anambra and in support of the state government.

Mrs. Obiano told the market women at Umudioka that Governor Obiano was worried by the unsavory activities of the sponsored touts who were bent on undermining the genuine intentions of the governor and warned mothers to restrain their sons from being used for such nefarious activities.

According to her, “CAFE is building the toilets in rural markets across the state to serve you, promote cleanliness and your dignity. I also want to assure you that the governor has noted the activities of touts who masquerade as government officials to extort money from you. Government has a legal way of revenue collection, just ensure that your sons are not part of the fraudsters because the government is ready to arrest and prosecute them.”

The governor’s wife assured the women that despite dwindling resources, Obiano was committed to the development of Anambra and do not discriminate between political parties, hence he was creating the enabling environment for investment to attract our sons who were developing other parts of Nigeria to come home and develop our state.

She called on the women to register with CAFÉ to be trained in skills that would empower them to be productive.

She also urged them to make use of rehabilitated primary health centers so as to minimize children and maternal mortality rate, warning against self-medication to avoid complications.

Also speaking at the occasion, the former Minister of Women Affairs, Iyom Josephine Anenih, said that she came to witness the beautiful things the governor’s wife was doing in support of Anambra women.

She equally expressed satisfaction with the performance of governor Obiano whom she described as “the working governor.”

According Iyom Anenih, “This is not about political party. I am a member of PDP but I must say that when we see what is good for our people we should support it and it is clear to all that Obiano is doing well for our people and his wife is also ensuring that the women are not forgotten.

Welcoming Mrs. Obiano at the Commissioning events, Member Representing Dunukofia at Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Lawrence Ezeudu commended the wife of the governor for the good initiative of the market toilet and the governor for transforming Anambra in many ways.

Also his counterpart representing Anaocha 1 Constituency Hon. Azubike Okoye expressed joy for the borehole provided by the governor’s wife in addition to a house she built for a widow in the village and assured that their people were happy with her and the governor.

Also in their vote of thanks, the President General of Umudioka women, Mrs. Akwuaka in Afor Igwe, and Mrs. Ngozi Obi at Agulu thanked Mrs. Obaino and her husband for leading Anambra with the fear of God and caring for all.

They separately expressed optimism that the governor would be returned for a second term in office to continue the good work he was doing for Ndi Anambra and assured that they would mobilize the women to give him total support.
