The Ports Authority Police Command (PAPC), Western Zone Area Command has solicited the support of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) in servicing its broken down official vehicles.

The new Area Commander of the Zone, Mr. Presley Dode who made this appeal while on a courtesy visit to NAGAFF headquarters in Lagos recently said that such intervention from NAGAFF would enable the command perform its duty effectively.

Dode noted that he inherited two operational vehicles both of them he said were in a state of disrepair.

According to him,” I will not hesitate to mention my challenges and of course it will be the normal thingy, logistics. I inherited about two vehicles and they are in a state of disrepair, they are in my office. So, I wouldn’t hesitate if NAGAFF looks into it so that we can double what we are doing.

“As I speak to you, I have only one vehicle that we are managing. When those vehicles are put on the road, we will sustain and improve security of the ports”.

On why he came to NAGAFF, the Police Chief stated that he was at NAGAFF to familiarize himself with members of the association so that they would both know each other adding that the second reason for his coming was to appeal to the association t assist the command in protecting the ports as the Police would not do it alone.

“So, I want to appeal to you to assist the Police by providing us information, by ensuring that the right thing is done like what he said, the job of the Police will be made easy. From what he has spoken, you have security within yourselves.

“We in the Police are your brothers and sisters, your husbands and wives, whenever we erred, don’t hesitate to call us to order  and we will be able to proffer solution. So, we go ahead and work as brothers so that fruitful results will be achieved. So, my coming here is to establish a relationship with your business and with my business. For the period I will be here, I want to improve on the relationship between the Police and NAGAFF.

“I want to assure you that any information passed to us will not be divulged. If you have a phobia that if you pass information and we will divulge it,you can send anonymous text with private number telling us the place, the color and so on. Ww cannot work effectively without information”, he said.

Earlier in his welcome speech, the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), NAGAFF, Mr. Chidiebere Enelamah who recalled that people used to tamper with containers yet to be cleared out of the ports in the time past however said that with the public advocacy of NAGAFF, that incidents had become a thing of the past.

Enelamah maintained that many issues in the country presently as they were, were as a result of the many position papers presented by the association which it followed up saying that with the concession of the ports in 2006, tampering with consignments was now a thing of the past.

“We know that your job is to maintain law and order in the society. NAGAFF is always prepared to partner with the Nigerian Police, we have done that in the past, the very person you are succeeding, we did it with him, we collaborated with him and yours is not going to be an exception. What we will do is to pass information when it is necessary”, he said.
