The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Area Command has arrested a smuggler by name Moses Degbogbahun in possession of smuggled imported rice concealed as a dead body in a Volvo Ambulance car.
A release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Selechang Taupyen stated that the regular road user who concealed the smuggled imported rice as a dead body in a Volvo ambulance car (740GLE) with registration No. DV 74 EKY was arrested along Aradagu Tollgate road on the 31st August, 2016 by 0600hrs.
According to Taupyen, the frequency of the said ambulance patronizing the international route with the alleged “dead body” was becoming alarming thereby arousing the suspicion of the mobile patrol team in the area which in turn necessitated the stoppage of the ambulance for proper examination.
He noted that upon examination, the ambulance was discovered to be carrying Eleven (11) bags of imported rice that was carefully arranged and wrapped as a corpse when examined.
“The regular road user who concealed the smuggled imported rice as a dead body in a Volvo ambulance car (740GLE) with registration No. DV 74 EKY was arrested along Aradagu Tollgate road on the 31st August, 2016 by 0600hrs.
“The mobile patrol team leader CSC Ozah, M. stated that the frequency of the said ambulance patronizing the international route with the alleged “dead body” was becoming alarming. This aroused the curiosity of the patrol team and necessitated the stoppage of the vehicle (ambulance) for proper examination. The ambulance was discovered to be carrying Eleven (11) bags of imported rice that was carefully arranged and wrapped as a corpse when examined”, he explained.
While disclosing that the suspect was still undergoing investigations for possible prosecution, the command’s spokesman also said that the management of the Command had warned that no amount of smuggling antics along Seme border route would go undetected by the eagle eyes of officers and men of the Command on patrol.
