Youths from all the 326 political wards in Anambra State converged at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka yesterday to formally endorse Gov Willie Obiano of Anambra State for a second term in office pledging to buy the party’s nomination form for the governor if he agrees to run for re-election.

The endorsement rally, coordinated by United Anambra Youths Assembly under the leadership of Comrade Chinedu Obidigwe, who doubles as Special Adviser to Gov. Willie Obiano on Political Matters, had in attendance good representation of all youth and pro-Obiano support groups in the State vis a viz; Ebelechukwu Obiano Ladies Movement, Willie Obiano Support Group, Team Obiano, APGA Youths, amongst others.

Speaking at the mega rally,  Gov Willie Obiano while accepting the passionate request to run for a second term in office said his best for the youths was yet to come noting that “the future of Anambra lies squarely on the shoulder of the youths… You are going to make it what it should be”.

“After my 8 years in office,  we would have created a very stable state that will continue to grow,” – Obiano added.

Gov. Obiano also declared that any young person willing to work in the agricultural sector should so indicate for quick engagement.

Earlier in his welcome address, the National President of UAYA, Comrade Chinedu Obidigwe, who spoke briefly before the motion for endorsement of the governor, expressed satisfaction at the leadership of Chief Willie Obiano but emphasized that the youth were more interested in his accepting to run for a second term as only that would ensure more of his laudable achievements and consolidation of his youth friendly policies.

According to Obidigwe, “Gov. Obiano… You are the most youth friendly governor in history of our dear State, your giant strides in all sectors have impacted positively in the lives of young people… We are determined to ensure your victory once you accept to run again”.

Obidigwe added that all the youths have resolved to contribute their widow’s might to purchase the party’s nomination form for Gov Obiano if he agrees to seek a second term.

On his part, the National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Oye described the turn out of the youths as unprecedented and urged all to be vigilant and steadfast.

Present at the mega rally were members of the State Executive Council, State and National Leadership of APGA, Traditional Rulers, Party Stalwarts, Captains of Industry and tens of thousands of young people from the various wards in the State.

The high point of the rally was reception of defectors from Labour Party followed by a colourful match past by the youths representing the 21 local government areas with beautiful masquerades and musical groups.
