…Says President of Igbo extraction answer to Nigeria’s prosperity
A former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife has described as a worrisome trend the growing trend of decampment of some politicians and respected personalities in Anambra State to other parties with dire consequences for the nation’s democracy and the integrity and dignity of Ndigbo.
Ezeife who made this disclosure in Awka during a press conference with newsmen on political developments in the State and Nigeria also described the emergence of a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction as answer to the development, economic and social challenges being experienced presently.
The former Governor who pointed out that Political Parties were voted into power based on their antecedents in terms of performance, vision and capacity, however said that if a party was in power and the populace was suffering, hungry and disillusioned, the only reward they should get was to be voted out and wondered what the justification was, for the decampment especially with the massive impoverishment which Nigerians were facing presently.
According to Ezeife who is also a chieftain of Ohaneze Ndigbo, due to the high level of organized electoral theft which some of these parties had executed to wrestle power in recent elections in other states, many desperate politicians in Anambra who do not believe in winning election credibly, were now jumping ship hoping to steal the people’s mandate at all cost.
While warning that if Ndi Anambra should make the mistake of giving these politicians their mandate to lead them, the entire South East would have lost its only flagship for sustainable development and exemplary leadership, he therefore urged the people to vehemently resist the imposition of political parties with strange ideology on them as according to him, these other parties lacked merit and vision.
Noting that Ndigbo were known for their enterprising nature and their dignity achieved through their constant insistence on merit and industry over mediocrity, Dr Ezeife warned that the people’s dignity and respect was presently being threatened by the negative political development in Anambra state.
Alluding to the recent statement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo where he made a case for Igbo Presidency come 2019, the former Governor harped on the need for Ndigbo to learn how to explore every opportunity they could get to fight their emancipation, especially in view of the injustices and marginalization meted out against them in the country.
He observed that Nigeria was blessed with abundant human and material resources enough to lead Africa and indeed the black nation to economic prosperity, but regretted that due to corruption and bad leadership, the nation was still a failed state even as he said that Igbo Presidency remained the answer to country’s development question and the clamour in the South East for an independent state.
