The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano has asked the Anambra women to ignore any attempt by anyone whatsoever to solicit or task them for any gift for her.

This is as a publication is currently trending on the social media titled, ‘’Agulu women tasked as Osodieme Visit Thursday, which alleges that the wife of the Governor is tasking Anambra women for gifts in the course of her on-going tour of the 181 communities in Anambra State.

In statement issued in Awka Wednesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Emeka Ozumba however dismissed the said publication not only as a blatant lie but also a malicious and vexatious publication which emerged from the stable of a well-known blackmailer and purveyor of falsehood.

Ozumba while stating that they would have ignored such publication as lacking substance however added that it was imperative that they do not allow such bare-faced lies to be used as a smokescreen by unscrupulous elements to defraud some mothers, the same group actively involved in the on-going positive interaction with the wife of the Governor across Anambra State.

“Thus, we are using this opportunity to warn umunwanyi Anambra to ignore any attempt by anyone whatsoever to solicit or task them for any gift for the Governor’s wife. The ongoing tour which is done in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs is a clear demonstration of the good relationship between her husband, the governor with Ndi Anambra that he permitted her to go down to the grass-roots, feel the pulse of the people and get feed-back that would further the course of good governance in the State.

“So far, her visits to 91 communities have been widely acknowledged as peaceful, productive and beneficial to all and sundry. She also makes it clear in each community she has visited that people should not border themselves for any reason and instead hands out assistance to the less privileged.

“It is also on record that the wife of the governor of Anambra State is not a public office holder and does not have any statutory budget. Therefore, the mere reference to her collecting any money is another childish fabrication.

“As the founder of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), Mrs Obiano’s numerous charity programmes are assisted by donations from philanthropists from within Anambra who are duly acknowledged on the plaques dotting her completed projects.

“To the glory God, CAFÉ has so far built and handed over nine houses to indigent widows in communities like Agulu, Alor, Amorka, Amichi, Awba-Ofemili, Enugwu-Otu, Ogbunike, Nri, and Umunya; as well as many toilets to promote hygiene in rural markets.

“The governor’s wife has also trained over 2500 women on new skills and empowerment free-of-charge in the following areas: Tailoring and Fashion design, Soap making, Bakery and Confectionery, Hair dressing and Beauty Therapy, and Interior Decoration, Telephone and Computer repairs, Community Health Assistant Services etc.

“We understand that as the tempo of political activities increase in the state, some persons may be tempted to clutch at straws in the attempt to smear the widely accepted stellar performance of the incumbent governor just to score cheap political points. However, such falsehoods as peddled in connection with the wife of the governor with the intent to cause disaffection can only come out of a mischievous mind and should be condemned by all and sundry”, the statement reads.
