Following a recent resignation posted on his Facebook page, a former employee of First Mediacom Network Limited, Roland Ekama has revealed reasons behind his exit and why the ex-boss slammed a disclaimer on him.
First Mediacom Network Limited is the proud owner of Shipping Position Live on Star FM 101.5 and Shipping Position Daily newspaper.
According to Ekama when contacted for reasons behind the Public Notice and why he chose to opt out from the company said that issue started in January 2017 when the Publisher, Sesan Onilemo insisted that there was need for reporters under the firm to remit 35% of any brown envelope gotten from event to the office due to the current economic crunch which in turn triggered reactions from the correspondents.
Ekama said that such actions resulted to his resignation from the organization even as he stated that due consultation was followed in the process.
He disclosed that his resignation letter was duly served on the Publisher with a month notice.
Ekama also explained that he already told friends, colleagues and some stakeholders about his exit from the maritime media outfit.
However, reactions from stakeholders appeared strange considering his loyalty and dedications for the company in the last six years.
According to him, “stakeholders expressed their satisfaction for my seeking greener pastures which also attracted prayers and blessings from them”.
Speaking on his relationship with his former boss, Ekama reiterated that “there was a very good working relationship while with him and I have never for once received any form of query of any sort from him”.
“The truth is that I got fed up with the job when he came up in January to say that we should start to remit 35% of any monies collected from events and assignment because the office was broke and there was the need to feel the pains of the office”.
“In the last five years, he never for once review the salary of workers yet insisted to be part of the sharing formula from events. I tried my best to comply with the directive owning to the fact that I can cope but as God would have it, an offer came in January and I grabbed it with all righteousness before the resignation came”, he explained.
The journalist cum presenter also disclosed that he had been signed on by Business and Maritime West Africa and his stories were visible online.
For the purpose of putting the record straight, Ekama stated, “it has become necessary for me to respond to a recent disclaimer slammed on me by my former employer, Sesan Onilemo. From all indications, he is set to cast aspersions on me as an individual with the aim of making stakeholders perceive me negatively. However, I still owe him huge respect and gratitude for giving me opportunity to perform in the sector.
“But it is necessary for stakeholders to know that I duly resigned my appointment providing a month notice in lieu of my resignation. It is also necessary to let my colleagues and stakeholders know that he duly acknowledged and he discharged me accordingly.
“Therefore, I am surprised that despite the foregoing, he went ahead to slam a disclaimer on me. It is my candid desire to let the world know what really transpired. He still remained my boss anyway. I thought he is a gentleman and that was the reason I gave him over six years of hard work, dedication and humility, I never knew it will end this way after due consultation with him. It’s a pity that such public notice gives me more publicity in the industry. Well, life goes on”, he added.
