CRFFN to begin POF collection August 1, schedules Governing Council election September 23

The Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has given the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) the nod to begin collection of the Practitioners’ Operating Fee (POF) at the seaports, airports and land borders with effect from August 1, 2017.

A letter addressed to the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) which was signed by the Director, Maritime Services Department of the Ministry of Transportation, S.U Galadanci on behalf of the Honourable Minister which was sighted by Primetime Reporters, requested NAGAFF  to ensure compliance by including payment of the POF by freight forwarders as additional requirement for the release of cargo.

The letter further disclosed that election into the Governing Council of CRFFN has been scheduled to hold in the month of September 2017 with the financial cost of conducting the election defrayed from the collection of the POF by the CRFFN.

The letter reads,” I am directed to inform you that the Honourable Minister of Transportation has requested the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to commence the collection of Practitioners’ Operating Fee (POF) at seaports, airports and land borders in Nigeria from 1st August, 2017. Consequently, your association is requested to ensure compliance by including payment of POF by freight forwarders as additional requirement for the release of cargo.

“In addition, the election into the Governing Board of CRFFN be conducted within the month of September 2017, with the financial cost of conducting the election to be defrayed from the collection of the Practitioners’ Operating Fee (POF) by CRFFN. Find attached time table for the collection of the POF and the election into the Governing Board for your kind attention”.

The letter gave details for the conduct of the election as follows; Nomination form – 4th to 8th september, 2017. Collection and submission of completed Nomination Forms shall be within one week from 9am to 4pm daily.

Screening – 11th to 16th September, 2017. Screening shall be for one week from 9am to 3pm daily.

Display of contestants’ first list – 18th September, 2017. Display list of Contestants at 9am and all complaints are received and finalized in three days from 9am to 4pm.

Display of contestants’ final list – 20th September, 2017. The final list of Contestants will be displayed at 10am.

Election – Saturday, 23rd September, 2017. The election shall start at 9am prompt

Receipt of complaints and decision on same. Deadline on receipt of complaints: Tuesday, 26th September, 2017. Decision on all complaints: Saturday, 30th September, 2017.

Retreat for all the 33 (thirty three) members of the Governing Council: Wednesday, 4th October, 2017 (Briefing on the functions of the CRFFN Governing Council).

Inauguration of the 33 (thirty three) members of the Governing Council, Thursday, 5th October, 2017.
