The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) at its National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting held on Thursday at its National Headquarters confirmed the former Deputy National President Headquarters, Chief Increase Uche as its substantive National President.

The confirmation became necessary following the demise of its former National President, Forwarder Oluwole Adeyemi who assumed office last year and passed on in April this year.

Until his confirmation as the National President of NAGAFF, Chief Uche was the Chairman, Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the association and later on became the Deputy National President Headquarters of NAGAFF.

It will be recalled that the new President of NAGAFF had been acting in that capacity for more than six months now following the protracted illness and ultimately the demise of Adeyemi.

Speaking to journalists on the development, the new National President of NAGAFF, Chief Increase Uche said that he was going to continue to pursue the manifesto of the late President more so as all they needed to achieve was embedded in the manifesto.

“It is only a new person in NAGAFF now that can say what he needs to bring to the table. The standards have already been set, we started from the scratch and we know the minds of the founding fathers of NAGAFF. Whatever is the objectives and goals of the association is what we are going to pursue. We are to add value because the society is dynamic and we that are in business of freight forwarding, so many issues are coming up everyday. So, ot requires somebody with analytical mind that can always key in.

“So, by the special grace of God, from where the past leadership stopped, we will take it up from there. NAGAFF before now have been known to propagate education and training, we have been known by our advocacy role which we have tried to expand through the radio programme, the NAGAFF Cargo Watch on Radio. So, we will not just want to do advocacy alone, we would want to go into enquiry through that programme so that we should know why some certain things are done and the reason behind it. So, I will continue to build on that, we will expand the horizon, get our members trained, we will emphasize on that”, he said.

On the outcome of the meeting, Uche who was Secretary General of NAGAFF in the previous administration stayed that the meeting deliberated extensively on the forthcoming Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) Governing Board election which is scheduled in September as well as the collection of the Practitioners’ Operating Fee (POF) scheduled to commence on August 1, 2017.

According to him,”Recently, we received a letter from the Honourable Minister on the collection of the POF and the upcoming election of the CRFFN Governing Council, coincidentally, this meeting came up at a time when some of these issues came up particularly the Ease of Doing Business under the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).

“So, we deliberated extensively on how NAGAFF is going to partake in the upcoming election, what our preparations should be. We tried to sensitize our members on the need for them to register fully with CRFFN though you are aware that we are in court, being in court does not deter us from leaning on the part of the law. So, we have sensitized them on the need to key in to the government policy”.

He therefore advised members of the association to work together for the good of the association and that of its members adding that it was not a personal thing rather it requires their efforts.
