The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has said that the agitations by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in recent times has helped raise awareness of various injustices and imbalances in the nation’s political system.

The party which made its position on the matter known through its National Chairman, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam also said that the agitations were helping the government to understand that some people were not happy with the way the country runs currently.

Aniebonam noted that it was not only Biafrans that agitate as there were other agitations across the country adding that the development calls for concern.

According to him,” Biafra is really not the issue now but a Nigeria for all. Again, the government is beginning to respond in terms of sitting down and looking at the issue of physical federal. The Igbos need more space to operate as international traders, so, we won’t be talking of an enclave, more so, for instance, you are not sure of Delta, you are not sure of Rivers and you heard the Governor of Rivers State as he spoke in Sokoto the other day, what do you make of it?

“Secession is one, another thing is the implication. To what extent is the international community giving you opportunity to do that? So many countries has seceded yet they are finding it difficult that some are even trying to go back to the mother country when they are not recognized, nobody is an island.

“But what they are doing is yielding a lot of good result and it makes the government to understand that some people are not happy. It is not only Biafrans that agitate, there are other agitations in country. So, it calls for concern and I think any responsible government will look at the real reasons and find solutions to this as far as I am concerned”.

On the declaration made by the leader of IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu that there will be no governorship election in Anambra State come November 18, the NNPP boss observed that he only exercised his freedom of speech since he had not coerced anybody into not voting at the poll.

“They have made an expression, it is left for those who think it wise to listen to them will do so and those who did not think it is right, will still go and vote. But like I said, the efforts of the Indigenous People of Biafra is being appreciated by every person more so when they are not violent and the government on its own too is also managing the situation. The outcome is that issues will be joined and addressed and everything we are looking for is a better Nigeria where everybody have sense of belonging. Like I said, we need more space to operate, that is the truth of the matter”.
